Known problems

Important known problems new to version 5.3 are discussed below. See also known problems from previous releases, as they may still apply.

IDProblem/Workaround
R#38490Server registration must be initiated from the central server when mixed releases are used
Registration from a pre-5.3 remote server to a 5.3 central server fails if the server encodings are different (which is usually the case unless the remote server is using the Synergy Asian line). The workaround is to perform the registration from the central server.
R#38474Windows service may not start in a timely fashion when using local help
The Rational Change service on Windows may not start in a timely fashion when Rational Change and Help are deployed together on Jetty, resulting in the following message:
"Could not start the IBM Rational Change 8600 service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
In fact, the service does start, but not within the 125 seconds expected by the Windows service, hence the message. Possible workarounds include:
1. Ignore this error
2. Install Rational Change and Help separately (on different web servers)
3. Use the public Information Center for help rather than a local help server
R#38401release.js script removed
The example external listbox script "release.js", and the internal APIs it relied on, have been removed in release 5.3. Version 5.3 automatically updates the release listbox when defined as a "Database Listbox" fetching values from "active_releases", so the script is unnecessary. Remove any references to release.js and set release listbox properties to "Database Listbox".
R#41635Installer issues
1. Issue with the installer on Solaris : The "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons on the Language selection dialog box may not be completely visible. Workaround is to press the Enter key.
2. Untranslated buttons in the installer : "OK", "Back", "Next", "Install", "Finish" buttons in the installer dialogs may not appear translated.
3. Some of the installer dialogs may not be aligned properly in AIX. Workaround is to type the inputs and press Enter key to proceed to the next dialog.
4. Choosing Synergy home and Synergy database in the dialogs, warning messages shall be shown saying "CRCHI0000E <Synergy home> version is not compatible. Click Yes to accept this IBM Rational Synergy installation." and "CRCHI0001E <database path> version is not compatible. Are you sure that you want to accept this database path?" respectively.
Workaround is to click 'Yes' and continue with the installation.

When you describe a problem to an IBM software support specialist, be as specific as possible and include all relevant background information so that the specialist can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:

  • What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
  • Do you have logs, traces, or messages that are related to the problem?
  • Can you reproduce the problem? If so, what steps do you take to reproduce it?
  • Is there a workaround for the problem? If so, be prepared to describe the workaround.

If you have helpful information to diagnose or identify the problem on your system, you can provide this data by following the instructions to exchange information with IBM Technical Support.
