Abstract
This document provides information about how to locate and install interim fixes that are available for WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 on IBM i operating systems.
Content
Interim fixes provide corrective service for specific known problems.
There are several interim fixes that are available for WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0. You can use IBM Installation Manager to update the product with the interim fixes. For a list of interim fixes that are available for WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 and specific information about each interim fix, perform the following actions:
- Go to Fix Central.
- Select WebSphere as the product group.
- Select WebSphere Application Server as the product.
- Select 8.0.0.0 as the installed version.
- Select your operating system as the platform, and click Continue.
- Select Browse for fixes, and click Continue.
- Click More Information under each interim fix to view information about the interim fix.
- Recommendation: Make a list of the names of the interim fixes that you would like to install.
There are two basic ways to update WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 with the interim fixes:
- Access the live service repository that contains the interim fixes, and use web-based updating
- Download the files that contain the interim fixes from Fix Central, and use local updating
Access the live service repository that contains the interim fixes, and use web-based updating
- If you do not already have an Installation Manager credentials file containing your IBM software user ID and password, create one that will allow you to access the repository.
Note: These are the credentials that you use to access protected IBM software websites.
For information on creating a keyring file for Installation Manager, read Storing credentials in the Installation Manager Information Center.
Tip: When creating a keyring file, append /repository.config at the end of the URL location if the imutilsc command is unable to find the URL that is specified.
- Sign on to the IBM i system with a user profile that has *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities.
- On a CL command line, run the STRQSH command to start the Qshell command shell.
- Make sure that the umask is set to 022.
To verify the umask setting, issue the following command: umask
To set the umask setting to 022, issue the following command: umask 022
- Change to the Installation_Manager_binaries/eclipse/tools directory, where Installation_Manager_binaries is the installation root directory for the Installation Manager.
On IBM i systems, the root directory for the Installation Manager is /QIBM/ProdData/InstallationManager.
- Install the interim fix:
./imcl install interim_fix_name
-installationDirectory product_installation_location
-repositories repository_URL
-keyring keyring_file
- Optional: List all installed packages to verify the installation:
./imcl listInstalledPackages -long
You can use Installation Manager on your local system to update WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 with the interim fixes from the live web-based repositories at the following locations:

Tip: For the live service repositories, you can use the same URLs as those used for the generally available product-offering repositories during installation. These URLs are based on the following pattern:
http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/offering_ID
where offering_ID is the offering ID that you can find in the table of offerings in WebSphere Application Server Version 8 product offerings for supported operating systems.
To install an interim fix from a service repository, perform the following actions:
Download the files that contain the interim fixes from Fix Central, and use local updating
- Use Installation Manager to update WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 with the interim fixes.
- Use the IBM Packaging Utility on a Windows system to generate a new repository that contains all of the interim fixes that you downloaded, transfer the repository to your IBM i system, then use Installation Manager to update WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 with all of the interim fixes as a group. For information on using the Packaging Utility, see the Installation Manager Information Center.
- Go to Fix Central.
- Select WebSphere as the product group.
- Select WebSphere Application Server as the product.
- Select 8.0.0.0 as the installed version.
- Select your operating system as the platform, and click Continue.
- Select Browse for fixes, and click Continue.
- Select the interim fixes that you want to download, and click Continue.
- Select your download options, and click Continue.
- Click I agree to agree to the terms and conditions.
- Click Download now to download the interim fixes.
- Sign on to the IBM i system with a user profile that has *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities.
- On a CL command line, run the STRQSH command to start the Qshell command shell.
- Make sure that the umask is set to 022.

- Optional: List all installed packages to verify the installation:

You can download compressed files that contain the interim fixes from Fix Central. Each compressed interim-fix file contains an Installation Manager repository for the interim fix and usually has a .zip extension. After downloading the interim-fix files, you can use one of the following procedures to update WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0.0.0 with the interim fixes:
To install an interim fix from a downloaded compressed file, perform the following actions:
Tip: You can also install interim fixes using silent response files with Installation Manager. For information on creating and using response files, read the Installation Manager Information Center and the WebSphere Application Server Version 8 Information Center.
Restriction: You cannot use the iRemoteInstall command to install an interim fix.
Note on removing an interim fix:
- You can uninstall an interim fix by performing the following actions:
- Sign on to the IBM i system with a user profile that has *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities.
- On a CL command line, run the STRQSH command to start the Qshell command shell.
- Make sure that the umask is set to 022.
To verify the umask setting, issue the following command: umask
To set the umask setting to 022, issue the following command: umask 022
- Change to the Installation_Manager_binaries/eclipse/tools directory, where Installation_Manager_binaries is the installation root directory for the Installation Manager.

- Uninstall the interim fix:
./imcl uninstall interim_fix_name
