In the sections in this file, there are release notes for the IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender products listed below.

- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender with Command Server
- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender with Launcher
- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender with Launcher Studio
- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio
- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender for Application Programming
- IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender SDK

To Dos before opening the Design Studio

Certain circumstances combined with the default behavior of Eclipse applications, which is that it caches plug-ins, might cause problems when you use the Design Studio. They might cause the open Design Studio process to fail, the Design Studio to be unstable or to exhibit the behavior of an earlier release, or the run map process to fail.

You can avoid these problems by doing some steps before you open the Design Studio application. In some cases, you should first run the cleanextenderstudio.bat batch file that is included in the installation at the root of install_dir, and is used to clear the cached version of the Design Studio plug-ins. In other cases, you should first delete the .metadata folder that is in your workspace, and then reimport the workspace, or switch to a different workspace.

Run the cleanextenderstudio.bat batch file under the following circumstances:
  • Your workspace got corrupted.

In this case, when Eclipse attempts to open the Design Studio, the open process fails.
  • You installed a patch that the WebSphere Transformation Extender customer support team provided you, which copied files to the wtxstudio directory.

In this case, when Eclipse attempts to open the Design Studio, it uses the cached versions of the Design Studio plug-ins from the prior release on which this patch was installed, which causes the open Design Studio process to fail.
  • You installed a Fix Pack release on top of a WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2.x release.

In this case, when Eclipse attempts to open the Design Studio, it uses the cached versions of the Design Studio plug-ins from the prior release on which this Fix Pack was installed, which causes the open Design Studio process to fail.

Delete the .metadata folder and reimport the workspace, or switch to a different workspace under the following circumstance:
  • You ran a map that could not be loaded into memory, which caused the map to fail and the Design Studio application to terminate abnormally.

When you tried to reopen the application, the open process failed.

2. KNOWN LIMITATIONS, PROBLEMS, AND WORKAROUNDS
=====================================================================

Java applications

[PMR59440] Time stamp from operating system not accurate in log files

Java applications, such as the Management Console, running on Windows Vista do not adjust the time correctly for the appropriate time zone. For example, the time returned is equivalent to Greenwich mean time (GMT)+0 instead of GMT-5.00 for eastern standard time (EST). The managementconsole.log and launcher.log files are affected by this issue.

Windows Vista compatibility

This upgrade for Windows Vista compatibility corrects the following problems:

- Java exception when starting a system on Windows Vista

- Font in Designer applications does not display

=====================================================================
3. RESOLVED AUTHORIZED PROGRAM ANALYSIS REPORTS (APARs)
=====================================================================

Platform API

[PK57827] Fixed an inconsistency found in acceptable map command format for InitializeRunMapInstance and RunMap for the SDK API program. RunMap function will now return the z/OS severity code. InitializeRunMapInstance can now be called using the map name format of DDname(membername). Previously this function would fail to open the map. Updated COBOL sample to show how to call the API mutiple times when using maps in memory.

IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender
for Application Programming
CICS Execution Option

[PK56804] Running a map interfacing with DB2 on CICS results in an abend with an 0C4. If this is a dblookup, dbquery, and so forth, no options exist because none were created. Options are only available for files associated with "real" cards.

Command Server

[PK58042] Fixed an issue where the command line that overrides input or output and does not specify <src> or <dest> target will result in the message 'invalid command line error' on HP Itanium.

Core Engine

[PK54987] Resolved an issue where the HandleGroupStart code decremented the lpLS->dwOffset causing the offset to appear before the parent offset. When mapping as a child object, the map cannot have an offset before its parent.

[PK58152] Audit log was not reporting all the errors in the datalog.
Changed the paging code that finds contained objects to better handle objects with zero lengths.

[PK58166] The pad to length was not being set when the min bytes was not set. We now check if we are padding with characters and pad accordingly. Pad characters now appear for Text items padded to Min Content.

[PK57046] Modified code in paging subsystem (UnSetTypeFound) to avoid an inappropriate modification of an internal structure.

[PK57288] Fixed an issue to prevent 0C4 abend or access exceptions when executing a map if no override is provided for an output card and map audit is enabled.

[PK58170] Fixed a performance issue when using SEARCHUP. The level representing the object being searched cannot represent a series.

[PK57663] Code added to allow validation of QUOT and ANYQUOT symbols. The data length is multiplied by the adustable amount to ensure there is enough data to convert.

[PK57342] Engine ended abnormally when transforming SJIS to EBCDIC. Code was added to recognize Japanese EBCDIC and to set up the character-length array correctly.

Database Interface Designer

[PK56936] If a table had a space in the name, typetrees were unable to be generated from the DID in Japanese. Now MakeTypeNameFromDB can receive a non-UTF16 string and iterate successfully. Spaces are now replaced with '#' from column names when the National Language is Japanese.

Launcher

[PK57153] Fixed an issue to ensure loading of the appropriate .dlls in z/OS USS. Now, .so files are loaded first. Previously, loading a .dll with no .so would cause problems when calling .dll functions.

Importers

[PK58168] The WSDL importer, when creating a type tree, incorrectly generated the opening and closing XML tags for each of the messages. The WSDL Importer now uses the message name when constructing the xml element for the SOAP input messages. Previously, it used the operation name.

Eclipse Design Studio

Map Designer

[PK58169] Fixed an issue when building maps for Datapower caused the Map Designer to end abnormally. MAX_SYNTAX has been reset to 3000 from 6000 since the maximum number of syntax characters allowed is 3000.

Resource Manager

[PK56810] Fixed an issue with the Launcher and deadlock map execution. If the resource is already in the table, but the deadlock is avoided due to the same instance (e.g. top level map and run map sharing the file) AND the resource is not in use by some other map (which would cause blocking and thread suspension), do NOT add resource to the table.
