New support and features

Additional Browser Support with Fix Pack 3

Impact 7.1.0.3 supports FF ESR 38, IE 10 and 11.

Enhancements in Fix Pack 3

Fix Pack includes the following enhancements:

– Component Updates
1. Java has been updated to version 7.0.9.1 (1.7 SR9 FP1)
2. Websphere Liberty has been updated to version 8.5.5.6

– Security: Updates to support TLSv1.2

1. Security protocol settings have been updated from SSL_TLS to SSL_TLSv2. This allows the Product Components (Impact Server and GUI Server) to communicate using TLSv1.2 and use TLSv1.2 as the first option when communicating with third party components.
2. SSLv3 is no longer supported

– Proxy server connection support for GetHTTP Function (RFE: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=73585)
1. Able to now connect to a web server using a proxy server
2. Can optionally configure for authentication against the proxy server
3. For authentication, can configure the Authentication scheme and Realm

– SNMP Enhancements
1. Enable/Support for AES-128 Privilege Encrypton for SNMPv3 in SNMP DSA.
RFE: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=47103
2. Mibs to load only once when Netcool/Impact started.
RFE: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=15773
3. The Netcool/Impact Handle() function to handle this exception: "com.micromuse.dsa.snmpdsa.SnmpDSAException"
RFE: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=15845

– Added support for Oracle 12. Can connect to Oracle Dbs using either Service Identifier (SID) or Service Name.

– UI Data Provider: Ability to open DASH page using right click menu in an item

The functionality allows user to open existing DASH page in the same portlet where the current page is viewed at. The existing page that is assigned for right click tool will not open in a new browser window or a new browser tab. Therefore, navigation between pages becomes much simpler and easier.

- Clustering: Ability to designate a preferred server when primary goes down
In a cluster setup of 3 or more servers, you can now set a specific server as the secondary preferred server so that when the primary server goes down, this server takes over as the new primary. This would typically be the server where the secondary derby server is installed and running.

– Install Product using Web UI mode (Browser Based)
If you are using Installation Manager version 1.8.1 or higher, you can use a web browser to apply this Fixpack. This can be used in environments that do not have the graphic libraries required for Installation Manager (for its native UI).

– Service Level Objectives (SLO) Reporting Enhancements

The information in this section applies only if you have deployed the Impact Solution called "Service Level Objectives (SLO) Reporting". The SLO function has these enhancements:
· Support for a time zone specification when creating the SLA definitions
· Detection of active outages in the sample policy that reads from a TBSM Metric History database
· Bug fixes and updated documentation

This function is documented on the following page in the Knowledge Center: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_7.1.0.3/com.ibm.netcoolimpact.doc/solution/imsg_slo_reporting_c.html

Before you install the Fixpack:
1) Stop all Impact services that are running policies that call the SLO functions to record data in the SLORPRT database.
2) If you have the service set to start at server startup, then turn this option off before installing the fixpack, as the server is restarted during the fixpack install.

After installing the Fixpack, but before restarting any SLO services, update the SLORPRT database schema using the following steps:

a) You will need access to the machine where the SLORPRT database was installed. If this database has not been installed, then the SLO solution has not been deployed and there is no need to continue this update to the schema.
b) Copy files add_timezone.sql and update_views_timezone.sql from [InstallDirectory]/impact/add-ons/slo/db to a location accessible from the system you will use to update the database schema in the next step.
c) Open a DB2 command window on a system with access to the SLORPRT database and run the following commands:

db2 connect to SLORPRT user dbuser using dbpassword
(replace dbuser and dbpassword with the user/password specified in datasource SLOReportDatasource )

db2 -tvf <slo_sql_dir>/add_timezone.sql

db2 -tvf <slo_sql_dir>/update_views_timezone.sql

db2 connect reset

Where <slo_sql_dir> would be [InstallDirectory]/impact/add-ons/slo/db if on the same machine as the Impact server, or the directory where you copied the files in step b above, if the SLORPRT database is on a different machine.

When you have installed the fixpack and updated the SLORPRT database schema, start any Impact services configured for SLO processing. If you originally configured the service to start the server starts, remember to check that option again.

Known Issues in Fix Pack 3

JRExec Service fails to start on Windows

On Windows, the JRExec Service would fail to start after applying FP3 because of an invalid setting in the nci_jrexec.conf file. This file is located at INSTALL_HOME/impact/bin and to fix this issue, you have to stop the server, open the file nci_jrexec.conf in an editor and insert a slash “\” (between lib3p and log4j-1.2.8.jar) for setting the IMPACT_LOG4J_JAR path. It should be:
IMPACT_LOG4J_JAR=lib3p\log4j-1.2.8.jar

A server restart is required after making the above change. This is only for Fix Pack3 installs on Windows platform.

Services and Data Model tabs not releasing memory in IE10 and 11

There is an issue where Service or Data Model (Data Types or Data Sources) tabs opened in the main UI in IE10 and IE11 doesn't release the memory used by the tab. Each open tab takes in the region of 20-30MB, closing the tab only releases about 10MB. If the user is editing a number of these configuration page, it would cause IE to use up enough of the client machine's physical memory and some performance problems will be noticed.
To workaround this issue, user needs to refresh the browser window to free up memory used by closed tabs. Logging out and logging in again has a similar effect.

Before you begin applying the Fix Pack

1. Backing up Directories

1. To apply this Fix Pack you will need 3 GB of free disk space
Check Instructions mentioned here:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_7.1.0.3/com.ibm.netcoolimpact.doc/admin/imag_upgrade_back_up_directories_t.html?lang=en

Backup the entire Impact directory.

This Fix Pack does not backup the entire Impact application. It only makes a backup of Impact configuration files.
A backup copy of Impact configuration files is located at [ImpactInstallDirectory]\backup\install

Extracting Fix Pack files

3.3.1 Extracting on Linux, Solaris, AIX , Windows and zLinux platforms
1. Copy the 7.1.0-TIV-NCI-<ARCH>-FP0003.zip file to your system.
2. Create a directory Impact_FP3 for example.
3. Unzip the file 7.1.0-TIV-NCI-<ARCH>-FP0003.zip to directory Impact_FP3.

Fix pack directories

When you extract the Fix Pack file, the following directories are created:

ImpactExtRepository (Contains Impact Extensions for NOI, Server and GUI Server updates)
ImpactRepository (Contains Impact Server and GUI Server updates)
response files (Contains response files for silent update)
scripts files (Contains installer update files)

and the following files are available:
update_console.sh (Update in console mode)
update_gui.sh (Update in GUI mode)
update_silent.sh (Update in Silent mode)

Installing Fix Pack in GUI and Console Mode

Check Instructions Here:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_7.1.0.3/com.ibm.netcoolimpact.doc/admin/imag_upgrade_gui_and_console_t.html?lang=en

Installing Fix Pack in Silent Mode

Check Instructions Here:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_7.1.0.3/com.ibm.netcoolimpact.doc/admin/imag_upgrade_silent_mode_t.html?lang=en

Installation in a Cluster Environment

Stop all Impact servers in a cluster environment before and after each update.

Example: A two server cluster would be updated as follows:
1) Stop all servers in the cluster
2) Update the primary
3) Stop the primary
4) Update the secondary
5) Stop the secondary
6) Start the primary
7) Start the secondary

Post Fix Pack Considerations

The Browser cookies and cache should be cleaned up before launching the UI. If you are using IE and have the Impact URL saved to your Favorites, then you must ensure that the "Preserve Favorites website data" is not enabled.

Rollback to previous version

You can remove the Fix Pack by doing a rollback to a previous version.
This rollback process is different from uninstall which removes Impact product entirely.
Detailed instructions are available here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_7.1.0.3/com.ibm.netcoolimpact.doc/admin/imag_rollback_to_prev_netcoolimpact.html
