Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.1 Fix Pack 1 includes product corrections and enhancements.

Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.1 Fix Pack 1 provides important product corrections and should be applied to all installations.

Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.1 Fix Pack 1 also provides new functionality and conformance updates:

  • Extensible visualization available for general reporting
  • General improvements in reporting including visualization library improvements and dynamic report booklets
  • General improvements in Cognos Workspace including embeddable and customizable workspaces, more control over widgets, tabs, toolbars and global areas, new recommended visualizations and improved printing
  • Theme Designer including Support from within Cognos Workspace
  • Dynamic Cube API
When upgrading from IBM Cognos BI 10.2.1 to IBM Cognos BI 10.2.1 FP1, a report specification upgrade is required. See the tech note for more information.

Installation Instructions


To Download a Fix Pack

  1. Review the fix pack prerequisites.
  2. Download the appropriate compressed tar file using the FC links in the Download Package section.
Some browsers might change the downloaded file type from .tar.gz to a file type not recognized by the operating system. To correct this, change the file type back to .tar.gz. Use of Download Director will prevent inadvertent renaming of files at download.

To Install a Fix Pack on Linux or UNIX
  1. Copy the fix pack to the appropriate operating system.
  2. Change to the directory where you have downloaded the fix pack installation image.
  3. Enter the following command: gunzip <filename> .tar.gz | tar xvf –
  4. If you want to see the version of a component before you install it, unpack the tar file to disk, or read the table of contents of the tar file.
  5. Follow the Installation instructions in Chapter 7 of the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Installation and Configuration Guide.
  6. Apply the fix pack to all installations.
Note: GNU Zip can be obtained from www.gzip.org and GNU tar can be obtained from www.gnu.org/software/tar .

To Install a Fix Pack on Windows
  1. Change to the directory where you have downloaded the fix pack.
  2. Using your file compress and decompress utility, decompress the .tar.gz file. If you are using WinZip, select the option "use folder names".
  3. If you want to see the version of a component before you install it, unpack the tar file to disk, or read the table of contents of the tar file.
  4. Follow the Installation instructions in Chapter 7 of the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Installation and Configuration Guide.
  5. Apply the fix pack to all installations.

Note: Our fix packs are cumulative by design. Installing this fix pack will include all updates from previous fix packs.

When upgrading from IBM Cognos BI 10.2.1 to IBM Cognos BI 10.2.1 FP1, a report specification upgrade is required. See the tech note for more information.

The backups that are created during the installation of Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.1 Fix Pack 1 are located in the bkp folder of the Cognos installation directory. Previously these backups were stored in ../uninstall/backup/.
