Abstract
This document describes how to download and install IBM® Rational® Functional Tester Version 8.1.1.

Rational Functional Tester is an object-oriented automated testing tool that tests Windows®, .NET, Java™, HTML, Siebel, SAP, AJAX, PowerBuilder, Flex, zSeries®, iSeries®, and pSeries® applications. It enables you to record reliable and robust scripts that can be played back to validate new builds of a test application. Rational Functional Tester runs on Microsoft® Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista™, and Linux® operating systems.
Rational Functional Tester is available in two integrated development environments and two scripting languages. Rational Functional Tester, Java Scripting uses the Java language and the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. Rational Functional Tester, VB.NET Scripting uses the VB.NET language and the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development environment.
This release of IBM Rational Functional Tester Version 8.1.1 includes the following new features:
- Firefox 3.5 support: Test HTML applications that are loaded in Mozilla Firefox 3.5 browser.
- Dojo 1.2 controls support: Record and test HTML applications that contain Dojo controls that are developed using Dojo Toolkit version 1.2. Testing Dojo controls is now supported on Linux.
- Support for Microsoft Windows 7 platform.The supported editions are Ultimate, Enterprise and Professional.
- Enhancements for testing terminal-based applications: The Rational Functional Tester Extension for Terminal based applications allows you to perform programmatic screen scraping to scrape a portion of the terminal screen to determine the change in values.
- Simplified Scripting:
- Undo and redo actions: You can undo or redo the actions that you perform in the simplified script editor, such as disable a test line or delete an action.
- Multiple datapool associations with scripts: You can now associate a datapool with a group in a simplified script.
- Conditional statements and iterate actions in scripts: You can insert conditional statements into a simplified script and also iterate actions by inserting loops in a simplified script.
- Copy and paste actions: You can cut, copy and paste the test lines into the simplified script editor.
- XML logs in Simplified scripts: The XML log now displays the results for the group, the elapsed time for the group execution and the hierarchical tree structure format of the log.

- Rational Functional Tester version 8.1.1 has withdrawn support for Netscape and Mozilla browsers

Prerequisites
- Before you update Rational Functional Tester, close the Eclipse and Microsoft® Visual Studio IDEs, as well as any open Web browsers, and all other applications that are enabled by Rational Functional Tester.
- If you are installing or upgrading Rational Functional Tester on Microsoft Windows®, to use the .NET Scripting feature, you must copy msvcp71.dll into the System32 directory (C:\Windows\System32), if it is not already available. You can copy the msvcp71.dll file from any other Windows operating system such as Windows XP or download it from Internet.

Installation Instructions
<p><b>Installing Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.1.1</b></p>
<p>You can install Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.1.1 in two ways: </p>
<ul> <li><b>Using IBM Installation Manager: </b> </li><br>
- If IBM Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.0, 8.0.0.1, 8.0.0.2 , 8.0.0.3, 8.1, 8.1.0.1, 8.1.0.2 or 8.1.0.3, is already installed on your computer, you can install this update using the Update Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. </i>
<li><b>Local upgrade of an existing installation </b> </li>
- <ol> <li> Download the Rational Functional Tester 8.1.1 fix pack from the location specified at the bottom of this page.</li>
<li> Extract the files to a temporary directory. For example, extract the file to <code> C:\temp </code></li>
<li> In the IBM Installation Manager click <b> File > Preferences</b> and add the temporary directory to the list of repositories, for example, <code> C:\temp\rft811.update.disk1\disk1\</code>.</li>
<li>Use the Update Packages wizard of the Installation Manager to proceed with the update.</li></ol></ul>
<b>Rational Functional Tester integration with Rational products</b><br></br>
You can integrate Rational Functional Tester Version 8.1.1 with ClearQuest® Version 7.1 and ClearCase® Version 7.0.1 and 7.1.<br></br><br></br>
<b>ClearQuest Test Manager perspective in Rational Functional Tester</b><br></br>
To add the ClearQuest® Test Manager perspective to Rational Functional Tester, install ClearQuest Version 7.1 plug-ins into Rational Functional Tester using IBM Installation Manager. <br></br><br></br>
<b>Installing ClearQuest plug-ins directly from IBM update repository:</b><br></br>
If IBM Rational Functional Tester is already installed on your computer, click Check for Other Versions and Extensions on the Install page of the Install Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. Select IBM Rational ClearQuest Version 7.1 from the list of the offerings and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation. <br></br>
You can also install ClearQuest 7.1 while installing Rational Functional Tester. In IBM Installation Manager, select IBM Rational Functional Tester in the Install page of the Install Packages wizard, and click Check for Other Versions and Extensions. Select IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.1 from the displayed list of offerings and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation.<br></br><br></br>
