This document describes how to download and install IBM Rational Functional Tester version 8.0 using Passport Advantage Online.

Rational Functional Tester is an object-oriented automated testing tool that tests Windows®, .NET, Java™, HTML, Siebel, SAP, AJAX, PowerBuilder, Flex, zSeries®, iSeries®, and pSeries® applications. It enables you to record reliable and robust scripts that can be played back to validate new builds of a test application. Rational Functional Tester runs on Microsoft® Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista™, and Linux® operating systems.
IBM Rational Functional Tester is available in two integrated development environments. For automated testing, the product records user actions to create simplified test scripts that are easy to understand in Rational Software Delivery Platform. It also supports two scripting languages for advanced users. Rational Functional Tester Java Scripting uses the Java language, and Rational Functional Tester .NET 2010 Scripting uses the VB.NET language and the Microsoft® Visual Studio .NET development environment.
This release of IBM Rational Functional Tester Version 8.0 includes the following new features:
- Support for recording and testing HTML applications that contain Dojo controls.
- A common license for Rational Functional Tester and Functional Tester Extension for Terminal-based Applications.
- Support for testing Graphical Editing Framework (GEF).
- Support for testing SAP R/3 versions through the SAPGUI 7.1 running on Windows.
- Support for testing .NET applications that are created using Sybase PowerBuilder 11.0.
- Support for inserting dynamic test objects. You can now anchor a test object as a descendant to its parent.
- Support for testing Oracle Siebel 8.0 applications.
- Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) support enables you to record and play back user applications built using Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.
- Support for testing Adobe® Flex applications that are built using Flex SDK 3.0.
- Support for testing Adobe Flex applications hosted on Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 browsers.
- Integration with Rational Quality Manager.
- View the graphical representation of the test results by setting XML as the playback log type.
- Support for testing applications that are running on Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6.
- An integrated Functional Tester Extension for Testing Terminal-based Applications.
- Support for IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager agent integration.
- Support for testing Java and HTML applications with applets that run on JRE 1.6.
- Improved performance while testing HTML applications on Internet Explorer, version 7.
Note: Rational Functional Tester Version 8.0 now integrates with keyword and manual testing capabilities in Rational Quality Manager 1.0. Therefore, Rational Functional Tester 8.0 no longer supports integrations with Rational Manual Tester 7.x.
Prerequisites
Rational Functional Tester Version 8.0 cannot be installed on a computer on which Rational Functional Tester Version 6.1.x or 7.0.x is installed. All previous versions of Rational Functional Tester must be uninstalled before attempting to install Rational Functional Tester Version 8.0.

ClearQuest® Test Manager® perspective in Rational Functional Tester
To add the ClearQuest Test Manager perspective to Rational Functional Tester, install ClearQuest 7.1 plug-ins into Rational Functional Tester using Software Updates.IBM Installation Manager.
Before you begin, verify that the following software is installed:
- Rational ClearQuest (Due to Eclipse versions, Rational Functional Tester Version 8.0 can only support Rational ClearQuest v7.1).
- Rational Functional Tester installed on any computer from and on which the Rational Functional Tester script is executed.
- Computers used for Rational Functional Tester scripts execution must have read / write permission for the shared location where the Rational Functional Tester project resides.
- A ClearQuest schema with ClearQuest test management package applied on it.
- Application and respective environment should be configured on the computer from and on which the Functional Tester script is executed.
- All the configuration regarding RAC should be done on both master and remote machines.
To add the Rational ClearQuest Test Manager perspective:
- In Rational Functional Tester, go to Help > Software Updates
- In the Software Updates and Add-ons window, click Add Site button and navigate to CQ installation directory. By default the installation location in Windows is C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\cqecUpdateSite
- Select the check box of the newly added site and click Install
- After the installation finishes, restart Eclipse for the changes to take effect
- After Eclipse restarts, select Window > Show View > Other and select ClearQuest TestManager > Test Manager from the window to open ClearQuest Test Manager view in Rational Functional Tester.
