IBM Spectrum Protect B/A-Client schedule may fail with ANS1835E & ANS1025E

Troubleshooting


Problem

After an upgrade to the IBM Spectrum Protect Server version 7.1.8 or 8.1.2, and higher, the B/A-Client scheduled backup may fail with ANS1835E and ANS1025E.

Cause

On the IBM Spectrum Protect Server versions 7.1.8 and 8.1.2, and above, the VALIDATEPROTOCOL parameter is deprecated.

Environment

Diagnosing The Problem

B/A-Client SCHEDLOG will show:
ANS1835E PASSWORDACCESS is GENERATE, but password needed for server 'xxxxx'.
Either the password is not stored locally, or it was changed at the server.
ANS1025E Session rejected: Authentication failure
ANS1570E Registering this instance of the client acceptor with the server failed. client acceptor process continues.
ANS2050E TSM needs to prompt for the password but cannot prompt because the process is running in the background.
ANS1029E Communication with the TSM server is lost.
ANS1977E Dsmcad schedule invocation was unsuccessful. This command will be tried again in 10 minutes.

Resolving The Problem

On IBM Spectrum Protect Server perform a ‘QUERY NODE’ for the affected node and check the ‘ Validate Protocol’ parameter.
If the parameter is not set to NO, update the node as following:

UPDATE NODE xxx VALIdateprotocol=NO
