IBM Support

New Amazon Athena JDBC driver does not work with Cognos Analytics 11.0.9 and earlier versions

Troubleshooting

Problem

Late in 2017, Amazon changed the JDBC driver for Amazon Athena. The new driver (1.1.1001) is not compatible with IBM Cognos Analytics. The new driver does not support the previous driver class name, and the names of connection properties are changed.

Diagnosing The Problem

If you download the driver from Amazon (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/connect-with-jdbc.html), you will find that it cannot be used with Cognos Analytics.

Resolving The Problem

You can use the previous, 1.1.0, version of Amazon Athena JDBC driver with Cognos Analytics 11.0.9 and earlier versions. For more information, see Amazon documentation (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/release-note-2017-05-19.html)
