Japanese messages of the client may not be correctly displayed in ja_JP (EUC) environment on AIX

Troubleshooting


Problem

dsmc or dsmadmc program of IBM Spectrum Protect Client may not correctly display Japanese messages LANG=ja_JP (EUC) environment on AIX.

Symptom

Command Line Interface Program of dsmc or Command Line Administrative Interface Program of dsmadmc may not display Japanese messages correctly in LANG=ja_JP (EUC) on AIX platform.

Cause

The issue may occur because ja_JP (IBM-eucJP) language is not installed in AIX system environment.

Environment

All supported versions of IBM Spectrum Protect on AIX platform

Diagnosing The Problem

Check to see output of locale -a command. The issue may occur when ja_JP.IBM-eucJP and ja_JP is not listed as below:

# locale -a

en_US.ISO8859-1
en_US

Resolving The Problem

Select "IBM-eucJP Japanese(EUC) [ja_JP]" in "CULTURAL convention to install" using smitty > "System Environments" > "「Manage Language Environment" > "Add Additional Language Environments", then complete the installation.

Verify that ja_JP.IBM-eucJP and ja_JP are displayed in output of locale -a.
