Question & Answer
Question
When using the DB2 backup command with 'SNAPSHOT EXCLUDE LOGS' will this cause DB2 to "set write suspend for database exclude logs" as well?
Cause
DB2 is performing the snapshot, thus the exclude logs and write suspend are dependant on the DB2 processing.
Answer
When running a DB2 snapshot with the "exclude logs" this will set the write suspend to exclude the logs from this backup and allow writes to the DB2 transaction logs to occur during the backup processing.
It is important to note that when the logs are excluded, such that they are written during the backups, they are not viable for a restore. The snapshot will still include the logs within the backup; however as noted in the EXCLUDE LOGS section, you will want to remove these from any restore processing. This is mentioned in the DB2 User's Guide under the syntax for the Snapshot Backup command:
