Security Bulletin
Summary
OpenSSL vulnerabilities were disclosed on June 11, 2015 and December 3, 2015 by the OpenSSL Project. OpenSSL, used by the IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) Client and IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments): Data Protection from VMware, has addressed the applicable CVEs.
NOTE1: This bulletin was updated on December 15, 2017 to add fixes for NetApp Services.
NOTE2: This bulletin was updated on February 15, 2018 to add 7.1 AIX client fix for NetApp Services.
Vulnerability Details
CVEID: CVE-2015-1791
DESCRIPTION: A double-free memory error in OpenSSL in the ssl3_get_new_session_ticket() function has an unknown impact. By returning a specially crafted NewSessionTicket message, an attacker could cause the client to reuse a previous ticket resulting in a race condition.
CVSS Base Score: 5
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/#/vulnerabilities/103609 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2015-3193
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an error in the x86_64 Montgomery squaring procedure. An attacker with online access to an unpatched system could exploit this vulnerability to obtain private key information.
CVSS Base Score: 5.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/108502 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2015-3194
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a NULL pointer dereference when verifying certificates via a malformed routine. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using signature verification routines with an absent PSS parameter to cause any certificate verification operation to crash.
CVSS Base Score: 5.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/108503 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined

CVEID: CVE-2015-3195
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a memory leak in a malformed X509_ATTRIBUTE structure. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain CMS data and other sensitive information.
CVSS Base Score: 5.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/108504 for the current score

CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2015-3196
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a race condition when PSK identity hints are received by a multi-threaded client and the SSL_CTX structure is updated with the incorrect value. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to possibly corrupt memory and cause a denial of service.
CVSS Base Score: 3.7
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/108505 for the current score

CVEID: CVE-2015-1794
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by an error when a client receives a ServerKeyExchange for an anonymous DH ciphersuite with the value of p set to 0. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to trigger a segfault and cause a denial of service.
CVSS Base Score: 3.7

Affected Products and Versions
These security exposures affect network connections between IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) and NetApp and VMware services. This exposure affects:
- IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) Client levels:
- 8.1.0.0 through 8.1.2.x - NetApp services (Linux and Windows)
- 7.1.0.0 through 7.1.8.1 - NetApp services (AIX)
- 7.1.0.0 through 7.1.7.x - NetApp services (Linux and Windows)
- 7.1.0.0 through 7.1.6.4 - VMware services (Linux and Windows)
- 6.4 and below all levels (6.4 and below are EOS)
Note that VMware services for the 8.1 client are not affected because the affected component in 8.1 has been moved to Data Protection for VMware.
- IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments): Data Protection for VMware levels:
- 8.1.0.0 through 8.1.0.1 - VMware services
- 7.1.0.0 through 7.1.6.4 - VMware services
