Question & Answer
Question
Is it possible to use the Backup Archive client to restore the SAP HANA data that was backed up with the Data Protection client.
Cause
The SAP HANA restore does not handle the case where the backint backup files are existing on the local drive.
Answer
The Data Protection client stores the SAP HANA data as an archive, which can be restored to a local drive using the Backup/Archive client. However, when attempting to use these archives that were successfully retrieved, there is a failure for SAP HANA.
RECOVERY RECOVER DATA finished with error: [448] recovery could not be completed, volume 0, reached log position 0, [110059] The backup /backup/PRD/data/PRD_BACKUP_20170218060001_databackup_0_1 is corrupt, size is 786552 bytes, [110010] Unable to read backup version information from backup '/backup/PRD/data/PRD_BACKUP_20170218060001_databackup_0_1'
It is not possible to use the SAP HANA studio to restore these files which have been extracted from IBM Spectrum Protect Server.
The HANA processing will expect the files which exist on the local drive to be a dump of the data directly from SAP HANA. However, these files were originally backed up with the Data Protection for SAP HANA client and contain a header of information that needs to be translated by the backint interface.
