QRadar: Kdump fails during bootup

Question & Answer

Question

Why am I seeing these messages that Kdump failed during bootup?

Answer

kdump is a feature of the Linux kernel that creates crash dumps in the event of a kernel crash. When triggered, kdump exports a memory image (also known as vmcore) that can be analyzed for the purposes of debugging and determining the cause of a crash. That failure for the kdump is normal as the system tries to take up space for the amount of memory that exists on the server in '/' partition for the kernel dump. This is an informational message and should not be a concern.
