db2icrt fails

Question & Answer

Question

Why does the db2icrt fail with ERROR: DBI1281E?

Cause

The db2icrt command fails with -

Initializing instance list :.......Success
ERROR: DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
initialized.

In the trace file we see -

+ disp_msg_file=/opt/ibm/db2/V10.5L/instance/disp_msg
+ '[' '!' -f /opt/ibm/db2/V10.5L/instance/disp_msg ']'
+ tee -a /tmp/db2icrt_local.log.378
+ /opt/ibm/db2/V10.5L/instance/disp_msg 1 281
/opt/ibm/db2/V10.5L/msg/en_US.iso88591/db2install.cat 'DBI1281E The
database manager configuration file could not be initialized.\n'
+ stop_prog 1
+ set -x

This is caused due to permission errors on /tmp or the install path.

Answer

Changing the permissions - chmod -R 777 on /tmp and install path will overcome this error.
