Question & Answer

Question

Are DB2 backups taken on Microsoft Windows compatible with DB2 for Unix/Linux?

Cause

Backups taken on DB2 for Windows are compatible for Microsoft Windows ONLY.

Answer

If you attempt to restore a DB2 backup taken on Microsoft Windows to linux or unix the following error will be returned:

SQL2570N attempt to restore on target OS linux x86 from a backup created on source OS windows NT64 or windows7 failed due to the incompatibility of OS reason code 1.

Reason code 1 - target-OS and source-OS are not compatible systems.

To use this particular backup image, restore it on a system that is restore-compatible with the operating system on which the backup was taken.

To move the contents of a database from one type of operating system to another, use the db2move utility.
