The default number of FCM ports has been changed to six in v10.5 or later.

Question & Answer

Question

The default number of FCM ports is four in v10.1 or earlier versions. However, the default number of FCM ports looks to be six in v10.5 or later. Is the new default number expected?

Answer

The change is expected.
The default number of FCM ports is 6 in v10.5 or later for both pureScale and non-pureScale instances.

So, please be aware of the following Knowledge Center pages contain out-dated information.

Verifying port range availability on participating computers (Linux and UNIX)
> The default range is four ports.

Enabling communications between database partition servers (Linux and UNIX)
> By default, the first port (50000) is reserved for connection requests, and the first available four ports above 60000 are reserved for FCM communication.

Additional note:
Please edit services file manually to add FCM ports if you have upgraded existing instance to v10.5 or later.
(note: a wse instance has no FCM ports)
