Restoring mksysb backup image in DB2 pureScale environment

Question & Answer

Question

I'm using DB2 pureScale. I would like to take mksysb image on all hosts at once but restore it into one of the hosts at another timing. Is the mksysb utility supported in DB2 pureScale environment? If supported, what is the supported steps to do so?

Answer

The mksysb utility is supported in DB2 pureScale environments. The customer can restore the mksysb backup on a single host or on all hosts. There should be no changes to the GPFS metadata in between the time of the backup and the restore. That includes the restriction of not being able to add/delete GPFS file systems and/or disks. Also, the changes(including TSA/RSCT trace data in /var) made between the time of the backup and the restore will be overwritten as part of the restore.

Here are the steps to take mksysb images on all hosts and restore it into one of the hosts.

1. db2cluster -cm -enter -maintenance
2. take mksysb backup image
3. db2cluster -cm -exit -maintenance
4. Repeat steps 1-3 on all hosts
5. db2cluster -cm -enter -maintenance
6. restore mksysb image
7. db2cluster -cm -exit -maintenance
