How do I fix 'Server Login' and 'Local computer' message when starting IBM SPSS Statistics 23 on host machine with Mac operating system?

Problem

When starting IBM SPSS Statistics 23 on a computer with a Mac operating system, a window displays with 'Server Login: Local computer'. The only response options are 'OK' and 'Cancel'. Selecting the 'OK' button results in no change. Selecting 'Cancel' results in the window closing but the IBM SPSS product does not work.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Open Statistics
  2. Select the 'SPSS Statistics' menu.
  3. Select the 'About SPSS Statistics' menu entry.
  4. In the lower left corner of the window, the entry following 'Release' will indicate the release version of the product.

IF the 'Release' version is '23.0.0.2' or '23.0.0.3' THEN see TechNote 1984541.

IF the 'Release' version indicates either '23.0.0.0' or '23.0.0.1', THEN install Statistics 23 Fix Pack 3 from here.

IF the behavior persists after updating to Statistics 23 Fix Pack 3, THEN see TechNote 1984541.
