Problem

cannot set user id: Resource temporarily unavailable when trying to log into a DB2 instance

Symptom

When attempting to log into a DB2 instance the error above will be returned to the console.

Cause

The most common cause is a lower resource setting in one or more of the following areas:

- If the nosuid option is set at the mount point of this file system this error will occur.
- Adjust the /etc/security/limits.conf and increase the number of processes allowed.
- Extend the nproc value in /etc/security/limits.conf for the user.

Review the kernel settings and /etc/security/limits.conf and ensure they meet the minimum requirements in both links noted below.
