Custom situation name cannot be longer than 24 characters

Question

The Custom Situations for the IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager can fail with message "Error updating situational data in DERBY". Why is this happening?

Answer

Longer Custom Situation name (> 24 chars) will fail showing the following error at IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager agent log (also known as "sk" agent):

2014-05-09 14:06:35.000000 TSMDerbyDB: Error Inserting PARMS in the Database: INSERT INTO ATTRPROP (SERVERNAME, ATTRIBUTEGROUP, KEYVALUE) VALUES ('','CMF:SITUATION_NAME_LONGER_THAN_TWENTYFOUR_CHARS', '1140509005200000')
2014-05-09 14:06::35.000000 ClientMissedFiles: Error updating situational data in DERBY).


In order to fix the problem, reduce the length of Custom Situation name to be shorter than 24 characters.
