Cannot paste a screen capture image into an IBM Rational DOORS object text on Microsoft Windows 8.1

Troubleshooting

Problem

If you paste a screen capture image into object text in an IBM Rational DOORS client on Microsoft Windows 8.1, the image disappears when you save the object or promote the object text to object heading.

Cause

The revised version of the rich edit control (msftedit.dll) that is included in Microsoft Windows 8.1 is not compatible with the Rational DOORS client.
This issue was identified as a product defect and logged under http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PI29326">APAR PI29326. It is logged internally as defect 9546.

Environment

Rational DOORS client for Windows on Microsoft Windows 8.1

Resolving The Problem

To work around the problem, copy the file C:\windows\System32\msftedit.dll from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 7. Paste that file into the bin directory in your Rational DOORS client installation; for example: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\bin. Restart the Rational DOORS client, paste the screen capture image, and save the module.
