MIF Exclusive Locks on SIB tables

Question & Answer

Question

When using Data Stores with the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) why do I see exclusive locks on the SIBOWNER and SIBOWNER0 tables?

Answer

This is working as designed.

The following documentation describes the exclusive lock on the SIB tables for Websphere 7.

Please review this information on backup of SIB tables related to the exclusive lock.

Note that starting in Websphere 8.5, there have been changes which allow you to configure the Message Engine to use Short Duration locks. It must be configured when the Message Engine is created.

The third part, Short Duration Database Locks, explains the change..
Page 14 of the PDF presentation shows how to do that.
