Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to upgrade from a 4.0.x release of IBM Rational Requirements Composer (RRC) or Rational DOORS Next Generation (RDNG) to 5.0 or higher results in all project areas being deleted.
Symptom
The upgrade appears to have completed successfully, however no project areas are available. A query directly to the PROCESS_AREA table in the migrated database also yields no results.
Cause
The problem is caused by a previously failed execution of the rm_upgrade script, specifically the finalizeApplicationMigration command. If there were errors in the configuration when this command was executed, the migration needs to be reverted to an earlier state.
The problem can also be caused by:
1) Manually running the repotools-jts -finalizeApplicationMigration command using the RM Application ID.
2) Running the finalizeApplicationMigration command more than once against the same database
3) Running the rm_upgrade script more than once since the rm_upgrade script triggers the finalizeApplicationMigration command.
This issue has been reported as a defect in APAR PI33689. Additional information is also available in defect work item 343736.
Diagnosing The Problem
The following query can be executed against the cloned RDNG database to confirm this problem is applicable to your situation:
SELECT UNIQUE NAME FROM PROCESS.PROCESS_AREA
If there are no results, the project areas have been removed by the upgrade process.
Resolving The Problem
The migration must be performed again prior to running the rm_upgrade script. Restore a backup of the cloned database from a time before the rm_upgrade script was executed, and re-run the rm_upgrade script. If no backup was taken, perform the steps for cloning the IBM Jazz Team Server (JTS) database again and proceed with the migration.
This problem is fixed in IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) 5.0.2 iFix003. To prevent this problem, you can apply CLM 5.0.2 iFix003 on the 5.0.2 installation before starting the migration and run repotools-jts -clean before starting the migration.
