Can client with AES256 option restore the backup data saved with AES128?

Question & Answer

Question

Can Tivoli Storage Manager Client with AES256 encryption option restore the backup data which is saved with AES128 encryption?

Answer

The support of AES256 in the Backup/Archive client and API was added in 7.1.1 client.
During restore and retrieve operations, the encrypted data are decrypted with the proper encryption algorithm, regardless of the setting for this option.
I.e. if the data are backed up with AES128 encryption, they could be restored if "encryptiontype AES256" is set in dsm.opt file.
