Question & Answer
Question
How can I automate the migration of DataStage jobs that use the ABAP Extract stage with the CPI-C transport method to use the RFC transport method?
Answer
Starting with IBM InfoSphere Pack for SAP Applications version 7.0, the ABAP Extract
stage no longer supports the CPI-C transfer method. If you are migrating from an older
version of the Pack, convert the existing jogs to use the RFC transfer method.
IBM InfoSphere Pack for SAP Applications version 7.0 includes a tool that allows easy migration of a large number of by jobs using a template-based approach. The migration tool is no longer part of the product package starting with version 7.1, but it can be obtained and used stand-alone as an Asset (JR51911).
Compatibility
Both versions of the CPI-C to RFC Migration Tool are compatible with IBM InfoSphere Information Server 8.5, 8.7 and 9.1 and support ABAP Extract jobs created with IBM InfoSphere Pack for SAP R/3 version 6.5 (no migration is needed starting with version 7.0).
Note that the tool is not compatible with Information Server version 11.3 or later versions.
To use older jobs with an Information Server 11.3 installation, convert the jobs to RFC by using the Migration Tool on the older version of Information Server installation before copying them to Information Server version 11.3.
The tool is a Client tier application. It runs on Windows platforms and connects to the Server tier running on various platforms.
Availability
The CPI-C to RFC Migration Tool is available on request (PMR) from IBM Support.
Support
The Tool version released as part of the Pack for SAP Applications 7.0 is fully supported by IBM Support. The stand-alone tool is provided "as-is" and no further support is given. It is strongly recommended to work with an IBM Services representative during migration.
Documentation
The tool documentation is available in the Information Server Knowledge Center.
Technote 1694523 provides detailed usage guidelines.
