Problem
While using Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager to take local snapshots of DB2 databases that are stored on DS8000, the snapshot fails with the FMM0672E message.
Symptom
FMM0672E: Error while querying volume properties of volume fcm_target_volume. Verify that the volume specified in the target volumes file exists.
Cause
FlashCopy Manager connects to CIM server properly, but the CIM server does not receive the query volume properties command from FlashCopy Manager. The connection is closed by the CIM Server. A third party DS8000 monitoring software terminates the connection.
Diagnosing The Problem
The CIM Adapter (fmcima) is used with the acsgen. When a snapshot command on invoked for a FlashCopy device such as DS8000 using the CIM interface, the fmcima trace shows the connection closure. For example:

Resolving The Problem
Do not run the third party DS8000 monitoring software when creating the backup with FlashCopy Manager.
