Abstract

Internet Explorer security update will block out-of-date ActiveX controls for older versions of Java.

Content

On August 6, 2014 Microsoft advised it will begin blocking out-of-date ActiveX controls. This feature will be enabled for Internet Explorer 8 through 11 on Windows 7 SP1 and higher as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 and higher.

This feature will be rolled out starting September 9, 2014 and will prompt users with a notification when loading ActiveX controls for anything below the following revisions of Java.

J2SE 1.4, update 43
J2SE 5.0, update 71
Java SE 6, update 81
Java SE 7, update 65
Java SE 8, update 11

Maximo 7.5.0.6 will support Java 7 Update 65. If you are unable to upgrade to this level, you can work around the feature by adding Maximo as a Trusted Site in Internet Explorer. All sites in a Trusted or Intranet Zone will not be affected by the update and will continue to function as usual.

Users will also still be able to allow the activeX controls to load by clicking on allow whenever prompted.
