Spare Parts Can be Duplicated in Maximo

Troubleshooting

Problem

Maximo allows you to create duplicate records in the spare parts object, instead of updating the quantity.

Resolving The Problem

You may experience the scenario where Maximo allows you to create duplicate records in the spare parts object, instead of updating the quantity. This happens while creating the spare part records from the application front end and also from external systems.

It has been confirmed by the product manager, that it is working as designed.

The fact that the spare parts display multiple times on the asset spare part section is a valid use case.

There are situations where separate instances and quantities of an item are needed in the spare parts list. This is usually the case for items that can be issued out as a measure.

Copper tubing for may be an example of this. This can be measured and cut based on the work order requirements.

A spare parts list for a compressor might require a 1.5' section and a 1' section, so you would see item 560-00 (copper tubing) with quantity 1.5 and quantity 1 in the spare parts list.

As a possible workaround, you can work with indexes on the SPAREPART table to prevent those duplicates being added if necessary.
