What are the general hardware requirements for the ITCAM for AD product?

Answer

The actual hardware requirements will depend on the amount of logging, number of users, network traffic, load, amount of logging, historical logging requirements, etc, etc...

For a basic environment where you have a MS and less than several hundred DC's, you will need at least a minimum of the following hardware configurations:

On the MS system, you will need at least about 5 to 7 GB of available disk space after installation and configuration.
On the DC/agent system, you will need at least 6 to 8 GB of available disk space after installation and configuration per DC.

Note: If you are using a Linux/Unix platform, then pay attention to the / file system, the /opt (default directory where $ITM_HOME is installed) and the /var directory (where the default logging goes to.) You should have a minimum of at least 3 to 5 GB of available disk space in each of these directories. You will also need a good amount of space in the /tmp directory, at least about 3 to 5 GB of available space for temporary file processing. Note, these are the minimum recommended hardware disk specifications and the more available disk space you have, the better.

Some additional considerations:

If you have non-default directories specified, you should consider increasing disk space on your file systems.

If you have enabled historical collection and are using the TDW database or other ITM-related software on the same system (not recommended) as your ITCAM DC/agent system, then you will need additional disk space. Actual space requirements will vary depending on the amount and level of logging and if history collection is enabled. Recommend to have at least 30 to 50 GB of available disk space to start with.

Some symptoms of unavailable disk space:

* Corrupted files

* Core dumps

* Unusual behavior like application issues like DC not connecting, no app servers connecting, etc..

* Hung/frozen issues when issuing commands

* Slower response due to paging issues

* Truncated files during file transfer

* No data showing in the GUI panels or data appears sporadically

* Sudden/abrupt end of log files and history files

* Log files get very large and writing to log files takes longer

* System slows down in general and you will see more performance issues
