When upgrading to V7.1, do not start your Content Manager OnDemand instance servers or run the Archived Storage Management (ASM) process until after you load and apply GA Cumulative PTF package C0096710 or higher

Abstract

After upgrading to V7.1, the migration policy level database table may be missing rows that define your migration policy levels. You might not notice the issue until you discover that you are unable to retrieve data that has been migrated to archive storage by the Content Manager OnDemand Archive Storage Management (ASM) process.

Content

This issue only occurs if all of the following are true:

  • You have TCP/IP configured to start automatically at IPL time.
  • You have your Content Manager OnDemand instances configured to start automatically at IPL time.
  • You perform a normal IPL after you restore the Content Manager OnDemand licensed program (5770RD1) V7.1 but before you apply GA Cumulative PTF package C0096710 or higher.
To avoid this issue, you must apply GA Cumulative PTF package C0096710 or higher before you start your Content Manager OnDemand instance servers, or before you run any Content Manager OnDemand commands, such as Start Archived Storage Management (STRASMOND).

If you need to perform an IPL after you restore the Content Manager OnDemand licensed program (5770RD1) V7.1 but before you apply a cumulative PTF package, or if you want to be sure you don't accidentally start the instance servers before applying the PTFs, you can prevent all instances from starting by simply renaming the ARS.INI file in the /QIBM/UserData/OnDemand/CONFIG directory before you upgrade. Without the ARS.INI file, starting an instance will fail with message RDR2798 in the job log: ARS0013E DB Error: STARTUP -- SQLSTATE=1. Important: After you apply the PTF cumulative package, remember to rename your renamed ARS.INI file back to ARS.INI.

If you have already upgraded to Content Manager OnDemand V7.1 and did not apply a cumulative PTF package before you started your Content Manager OnDemand instance servers, contact the IBM support center for assistance in resolving this issue.
