Why do you get " ERROR: One or more errors occurred while updating the link "/usr/local/bin/db2ls""?

Question & Answer

Question

During DB2 installation you might get the below error but the installation will still succeed: ERROR: One or more errors occurred while updating the link "/usr/local/bin/db2ls". Create this link manually to the latest version of DB2 copy with db2ls installed, or if the link cannot be created, run the db2ls command from the DB2 installation media. Refer to DB2 documentation for more information. Updating the db2ls link :.......Failure If the root has write permission in /usr/local/bin or is able to create /usr/local/bin, the symbolic link /usr/local/bin/db2ls will be created which points to DB2DIR/install/db2ls for the first installation of DB2 Version 9 or later version installed on the system. The root will update the link pointing to the highest version and level of DB2 installed on the system, if multiple copies of DB2 are installed. However, if the write permission is supressed from /usr/local/bin then you will face this above error. The reason DB2 attempts to write db2ls to /usr/local/bin is so that all users on the box have the ability to run the db2ls command, which is a simple command to list out the DB2 products installed on the box. You can safely ignore this warning and manually create the link later if you wish. Example: i) Login as a user that has write access on the filesystem (root) ii) cd /usr/local/bin/ iii) ln -sf DB2DIR/install/db2ls db2ls
