TADDM user ID login interactive vs non-interactive

Troubleshooting

Problem

Does TADDM require a interactive user ID login during discovery?

Resolving The Problem

Taddm uses a interactive user logon ID which executes in non-interactive mode for all discovery sessions.

For example;

During discovery, a continuous session is established between the server and the gateway in order for the sensor to run commands and return results.

By definition, TADDM always requires an interactive user. This user has to be interactive in order to execute commands. Each command run by the TADDM user though is running in a non-interactive way (Taddm users runs the command and waits for the output).

Here are some examples on what to look for if the discovery fails due to the user logon settings.

If in an environment the TADDM user is defined in the following way in the /etc/passwd as below, TADDM user will be unable to run the discovery:

example
taddmusr:x:100:100::/export/home/taddmusr:/bin/false
or
taddmusr:x:100:100::/export/home/taddmusr:/bin/nologon

In order for the discovery to run successfully, the user has to be defined in the following way:
The user needs to be defined as :
taddmusr:x:100:100::/export/home/taddmusr:/bin/sh
