Cannot satisfy dependency when installing CICS Explorer 5.1 into IRAD 8.0.4

Troubleshooting


Problem

You are running IBM Rational Application Developer (IRAD) V8.0.4 and receive errors when choosing to install CICS Explorer V5.1. You cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. The Install Details indicate that you "Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency" and you "Cannot satisfy dependency".

Symptom

You receive the following incompatibility errors:

Cause

The CICS Explorer V5.1 Detailed System Requirements lists the minimum required Eclipse Runtime as V4.2.2. CICS Explorer V5.1 is not compatible with Eclipse V3.6.2 Runtime. However, there was an attempt to install CICS Explorer V5.1 into an IDE environment configured with an Eclipse V3.6.2 (Helios) runtime platform. In this instance, IBM RAD V8.0.4.

Environment

IRAD 8.0.4 (IBM Rational Application Developer version 8.0.4 Build ID RAD0804-I20111108_1151) which is based on Eclipse 3.6.2.

Diagnosing The Problem

The "Eclipse platform updates" under Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 8.0 releases: new features and enhancements lists the Eclipse platform level as 3.2.6 for IRAD 8.0.4.

The 'Prerequisites' tab of the Detailed System Requirements for CICS Explorer V5.1 report lists the Eclipse Runtime prerequisite minimum version as V4.2.2.

Resolving The Problem

If you need the latest version of CICS Explorer compatible with IRAD 8.0.4 (which is based on Eclipse 3.6.2 runtime), refer to the CICS Explorer downloads for older releases of CICS Explorer.

  1. Download the zip archive for CICS Explorer V1.1.1.3
  2. Navigate to Help > Install New Software in IRAD 8.0.4
  3. Click the Add button to add an archive and paste the location of the CICS Explorer 1.1.13 zip archive
  4. Select the CICS Explorer 1.1.1.3 archive site and select the CICS Explorer components you want to install
