How to rebuild the sysutils database in Extended Parallel Server (XPS)

Question & Answer

Question

How to rebuild the sysutils database in Extended Parallel Server (XPS)?

Cause

After an onbar backup, the message log reveals the error message:

-236 Number of columns in INSERT does not match number of VALUES.

This error usually indicates that a conversion process did not complete correctly, as might happen after an upgrade or a storage manager change. The backup history information retained in the sysutils database is likely to be compromised and no longer useful, due to this corruption.

Answer

The solution is to rebuild the sysutils database, using the script supplied in $INFORMIXDIR/etc named bldutil.sh. Exact steps to rebuild the sysutils database are as follows:

  • It is recommended that this process should be run in single user mode.
  • As user Informix, run:
  • $INFORMIXDIR/etc/bldutil.sh

  • After this routine completes, run
  • onsmsync -b

Note:The process to do this on Informix Dynamic Server is exactly the same, however the file used with onsmsync to do the synchronizing of the history information is bixbar.servernum on XPS, and ixbar.servernum on IDS.
