Using zRule Execution Server for z/OS across LPARS

Question & Answer

Question

I want to share a zRule Execution Server for z/OS database and console across LPARs, is it supported?

Cause

The documentation seems to indicate that the scope of zRule Execution Server for z/OS is within one single LPAR.

Answer

The documentation indicates one way to set up zRule Execution Server for z/OS, but the following methods are also supported:

  • Share a DB2 subsystem across zRule Execution Server for z/OS instances on multiple LPARs
  • Use options other than the JDBC type 4 for a stand-alone Rule Execution Server on z/OS
  • Have a single Rule Execution Server console that handles zRule Execution Server for z/OS instances that are spread across LPARs

For the later, the following restrictions apply:
  • The Rule Execution Server console needs to have TCP/IP access to the Rule Execution Server/zRule Execution Server for z/OS instances
  • The zRule Execution Server for z/OS instances need to share a common persistence store
