Changing the LDAP admin user password in RLKS Administration and Reporting Tool

Question & Answer

Question

How do you change the LDAP admin user password in the IBM Rational License Key Server (RLKS) Administration and Reporting Tool (ART)?

Cause

If the LDAP admin user password is changed after it is configured in ART, future startups of the ART fail. The LDAP user who previously had the access is no longer able to access ART.

Answer

You can change the LDAP admin user password configured in ART by executing art-tools utility. This utility is packaged in ART version 8.1.4.8 and above. Upgrade to ART version 8.1.4.8 and execute this utility. See Changing the LDAP password configured in the server administration and reporting tool for more information.

NOTE : When upgrading from ART version below 8.1.4.4 with data migration, start ART after upgrade. ART performs initial configurations and shuts down automatically since LDAP password is invalid. Now execute the art-tools utility and start ART.

Note: If you cannot upgrade to ART version 8.1.4.8 now, here are the manual steps to change the LDAP admin password in ART:

  1. Open server.xml file inside <install location>/RLKSAdmin/server/tomcat/conf

  2. Search for "connectionPassword" in the server.xml file.

  3. Note the old password present in the following format: connectionPassword="Old_password" where the "Old_password" is the old LDAP admin password.

  4. Replace the "Old_password" with the new password.

  5. Save the server.xml file.

  6. Contact IBM Support to get a utility and execute it to update <install location>/RLKSAdmin/server/conf/ldapconf.properties file with encrypted new password.

  7. Restart the RLKS Administration and Reporting Tool.
