IBM Support

Cannot browse repositories located on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server from an Installation Manager installed on AIX

Troubleshooting

Problem

When using the IBM Installation Manager (IM) GUI from an IBM AIX machine to browse to a repository from a mounted drive that points to NFS directory located on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.9 or later server the remote directory appears to be empty.

Cause

The issue is a result of some changes that were made to RHEL that causes the IM's on the AIX system to not be able to access the appropriate native libraries in order to display the contents in the GUI of the NFS directory on the remote server.

For more details, review Red Hat support document 331643: NFS mount from Linux to Solaris or AIX - readdir() function fails on Solaris or AIX with new patching.

Resolving The Problem

This only affects IM ability to browse to the remote NFS directory in the GUI.

In the GUI in order to add a repository located in a NFS directory on a remote RHEL server to the list of available repositories in the IM preferences; you must type in the path to that repository in the Repository: text box on the Add Repository pop-up dialog instead of using the browse function.
