API call in VBA script crashes Excel

Troubleshooting


Problem

When running an IBM Rational ClearQuest VBA script from Microsoft Excel, Excel crashes.

Symptom

The faulting module path is:

...IBM\RationalSDLC\common\ibmratl_lic.dll


The log on msinfo32 will show a message like this:

Application Error Faulting application name: EXCEL.EXE, version: 14.0.7109.5000, time stamp: 0x522a4031
Faulting module name: ibmratl_lic.dll, version: 0.0.0.0

Cause

Installation of a certain products can cause issues with the Rational common licensing code file ibmratl_lic.dll.

Diagnosing The Problem

Check the msinfo32 log to confirm if you see the message regarding the ibmratl_lic.dll file: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308549

Resolving The Problem

This issue is resolved in ClearQuest 7.1.2.6. Upgrade to resolve this problem.
