The impact on testing of the update to the SWIFT 2014 MT messaging standard

Question & Answer

Question

How will the inclusion of the SWIFT 2014 MT messaging schemas affect testing with IBM Rational Integration Tester (RIT) of IBM Rational Test Workbench?

Cause

RIT uses a single version of the SWIFT standard. A new feature in Rational Integration Tester 8.5.1 is to use the SWIFT 2014 MT standard. This update changes available message schemas.

You want to know the following things:

  • How this change affects testing,
  • How existing tests will behave,
  • How new tests will interact with the older message types.

Answer

The expectation is that all existing tests function as before. This is because the message structures have already been configured using the previous standard. The new standard will not affect them.

For new tests and when re-applying the MT schema to existing messages, the 2014 standard will be used.

You can create tests that use message structures from previous versions of the SWIFT standard. The reason is that you can manually add fields of any given type with this message editor.

The attached file lists the changes in message formats from the previous 2013 standard.

See technote The impact on testing of the update to the SWIFT 2013 MT messaging standard for the previous set of changes introduced in Rational Integration Tester 8.0.1.1.

See the Rational Integration Tester Release Notes and official SWIFT documentation in conjunction with this technote.
