Problem

Attempt to install IBM Netcool/OMNIbus 7.3.0 FixPack 7 (FP7) fails with java.lang.NullPointerException error

Symptom

Found this fatal error in the install log during installation of IBM Netcool/OMNIbus FP7:

Deployment Plan generation failure:


COIException in: createDeploymentPlan(/opt/IBM/netcool/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7/plan/install,DeploymentPackage Location: /tmp/730-FP07/COI,...,...)

Status: FATAL ERROR
Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR - The Deployment Plan is not found or Invalid.

Cause

From the logs, you can see it is failing due to empty "$NCHOME/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7/plan" directory:

Caused by: com.ibm.ac.coi.ext.ia.COIWrapperException: COIException in: createDeploymentPlan(/opt/IBM/netcool/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7/plan/install,DeploymentPackage Location: /tmp/730-FP07/COI,...,...)

Environment

IBM Netcool/OMNIbus 7.3.0.x with IBM Deployment Engine

Diagnosing The Problem

Check if "$NCHOME/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7/plan" directory is empty

Resolving The Problem

1. Rename "$NCHOME/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7" directory to "$NCHOME/_uninst/OMNIbusFP7_old"
2. Re-try FP7 installation
