Some LDAP users not displaying in IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) user management tools

Troubleshooting

Problem

You might use Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) user repositories to provide users for your IBM Business Process Manager system. When you try to manage users or map them to participant groups, you might notice that some users or groups that exist in your LDAP repository do not display in the IBM Business Process Manager user lists.

Cause

This issue can be caused by LDAP filter values that do not allow visibility by the WebSphere Application Server, and the IBM Business Process Manager capabilities that are built upon it, to view all of the desired users. The use of filtering is highly advised because IBM Business Process Manager synchronizes all of the visible users to its user database. However, it must be designed to allow all of the necessary users to be accessible. Users that are not visible through this filter are not visible in IBM Business Process Manager user administration tools.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue, check the WebSphere Application Server LDAP filter to see if you are filtering out some of the users or groups that you need to use with IBM Business Process Manager. For example, you might be retrieving only certain kinds of groups and not others. Use the following links to the WebSphere Application Server documentation to check the WebSphere Application Server settings:

Developing correct LDAP filters is a task that you need to work on in conjunction with your LDAP server administrator, who will also have tools available for testing whether filters allow access to the groups that you require. Experimentation might be required to determine the appropriate filters to pull the desired users into IBM Business Process Manager. This experimentation might be necessary so that the users are available on the Role Bindings tab of the "Deployed App" configuration screen for the Process Admin.
