Problem
If your IBM Business Monitor server running the IBM Cognos BI service hangs during startup. this may be caused by a mismatch in the IBM Cognos binaries and the WebSphere JVM bit modes.

Diagnosing The Problem
If the following message is the last line in WebSphere SystemOut.log:
CognosConfigS I com.ibm.wbimonitor.admin.command.cognos.CognosConfigStartup initialize starting COGCONFIG.
Then verify that the hang is caused by a mismatch of bit modes between the two products, by comparing the results of the following two actions:
- From the WebSphere "bin" directory run the "versionInfo" shell script or batch file to get the bit mod of the installed Java™.
For example:
Installed Features IBM 64-bit SDK for Java, Version 6
- From the WebSphere "cognos" directory open the file called "cmplst.txt" and check the property called "C8BISRVR_version". The value will start with "C8BISRVR-" and then a few letters representing the operating system platform, followed by either 32 or 64 representing the bit mode of the installed binaries.
For example:
C8BISRVR_version=C8BISRVR-AW64-ML-RTM-10.1.6235.151-0
Resolving The Problem
Use Installation manager to uninstall IBM Cognos BI and install the correct version to match the WebSphere installed Java.
