Question & Answer
Question
RPT and RFT playbacks sometimes generate GENERIC_FAILURE errors. Is there any documentation that describes reasons for this error to be generated?
Answer
An Event Type of "Generic Failure" is a "catch-all" event type.
Failures are generated by RPT and RFT with a return code. Where possible, the return code is assigned to one of the following event types to the failure:
Timeout
Return Code
HTTP Return Code
Content Size
Content Failure
Component Failure
Authentication Failure
Page Title Failure
Custom Failure
URL Unavailable Failure
Verification Point Failure
Expected Text Failure
Expected Data Failure
Expected Property Failure
Expected Image Failure
These Event Types are described in the following technote:
Descriptions of Event Type Values in Playback Status workspace
If a return code can not be assigned to one of these Event Types, the failure has an event type of "Generic Failure".
