Installing WebSphere Integration Developer and the WebSphere Process Server Unit Test Environment (UTE) silently

Question & Answer

Question

How do I install WebSphere Integration Developer and the WebSphere Process Server Unit Test Environment (UTE) silently?

Answer

To install WebSphere Integration Developer silently, follow the instructions in Installing and running Installation Manager in silent mode. A sample response file is attached, lower down on this page. For more information about the response file, see Reference: Sample response file.

Note: When the WebSphere Integration Developer installation is complete, note the root directory for your WebSphere Integration Developer installation, which we call the <WIDHome> directory. In the next step, the UTE is installed in the same directory level. For example, if your WebSphere Integration Developer was installed into C:\IBM\WID7, then your <WIDHome> will be C:\IBM\WID7 and the UTE is installed into the <WIDHome>_WTE folder, which is C:\IBM\WID7_WTE in this example.

To install the Unit Test Environment (UTE) silently, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a response file for installing the Unit Test Environment using the same instructions as you did in step 1. A sample response file is attached.
  2. Save the response file to <WID70CDImage_Home>\WTE_Disk\scripts folder. A sample response file (responsefile.wte.win.xml) is attached that allows you to install the WebSphere Process Server UTE.
  3. From the Installation Manager directory, <WID70CDImage_Home>\WTE_Disk\IM_win32, run the installWAS script to install the WebSphere Application Server Network Deploy into the <WAS_INSTALL_HOME> folder.

In this case, we want to create the UTE for WebSphere Integration Developer; therefore, the <WAS_INSTALL_HOME> is set to <WIDHome>_WTE\runtimes\bi_v7.

If, for example, the <WID70CDImage_Home> is set to C:\WID70CDImage, and the <WIDHome> folder from the WebSphere Integration Developer installation is set to C:\IBM\WID7, you can run the installWAS.bat file using the following command:

    ...\scripts\installWAS.bat C:\WID70CDImage C:\IBM\WID7_WTE\runtimes\bi_v7
  4. Run Installation Manager silently, which imports the WebSphere Application Server repository, installs WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Business Monitor, and then creates the WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Business Monitor profiles.

To run Installation Manager silently, use the following command:
    installc.exe --launcher.ini silent-install.ini -input ...\scripts\responsefile.wte.win.xml -log ..\scripts\install_log.xml
