"DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-284, SQLSTATE=42838, SQLERRMC=CONTROLLER_LOBS;LONG IN;REGULAR" when creating empty database

Troubleshooting


Problem

Customer is trying to create a new (blank) DB2 Controller database. I.T. department's DBA creates blank DB2 database. Afterwards, I.T. administrator launches "Database Conversion Utility" and clicks "Connect" then "Create DB". An error appears.

Symptom


Creating new empty database
Running DB Step: initial
Running script batch: script/db2_createDB.batch
Running script: script/db2/sequence_xdbtrickle_seq.sql
Running script: script/db2/table_xdb00.sql
** ERROR: com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.ro: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-284, SQLSTATE=42838, SQLERRMC=CONTROLLER_LOBS;LONG IN;REGULAR, DRIVER=3.58.82

Cause

DB2 database has not been prepared correctly with the relevant scripts.

Resolving The Problem

Delete the existing 'bad' database, and re-create brand new blank DB2 database. Afterwards, prepare the DB2 correctly by running the relevant scripts.
