Attempts to sort result sets in ClearQuest Web client result in error messages

Problem

Attempts to sort the result set generated by an SQL-editied query in IBM Rational ClearQuest Web client may result in error messages when sort method is set to "entire result set".

Symptom

When you click on a column title of the displayed result set, the below error messages may appear.

For Rational ClearQuest Web 7.1.1.x:
Internal error: Status 500; Condition null; Message: Error from RPC server: Failed to deliver query resource 'Public Queries/All Defects'; got error: 'Permission denied. This operation can only be performed by a user with "Read-Write" privileges on the folder, "Public Queries". The current user only has "Read-Only" permissions.'

For Rational ClearQuest Web 7.1.2.x, 8.0.0.x and 8.0.1.x:
Error from RPC server: Failed to deliver query resource 'Public Queries/All Defects'; got error: 'CRMUD0176E Permission denied. This operation can only be performed by a user with "Read-Write" privileges on the folder, "Public Queries". The current user only has "Read-Only" permissions.'

Cause

This has been identified as a product defect under APAR PM64841.

Resolving The Problem

Rational ClearQuest Web does not support sorting on result sets of SQL-edited queries.

To avoid the error messages, only sort within the current page or copy the affected queries to Personal Queries folder and run it from there.
