Preventive Service Planning
Abstract
Upgrading to DB2® Connect Version 10.1 might require upgrading your environment components. These components are DB2 Connect servers, DB2 servers, clients, and database applications. Upgrading these components requires an understanding of the DB2 products upgrade concepts and the DB2 products.
This document will help you navigate through the available information and resources related to upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 9.7 and Version 9.5 to DB2 Connect Version 10.1 .
Content
Your first point of reference to learn how to create an upgrade plan and how to upgrade each component of your DB2 environment is the Installing and Configuring DB2 Connect Servers and the Upgrading to DB2 Version 10.1 guide. The content of this guide is available in the DB2 Information Center. The most high level topic for upgrading DB2 Connect is Upgrading to the latest version of DB2 Connect.
You will find that upgrade topics for DB2 Connect servers reference upgrade tasks for DB2 servers because they are exactly the same tasks for DB2 servers and DB2 Connect servers.

Prerequisites
If you are upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 9.1 or earlier, you need to upgrade to DB2 Connect Version 9.7 first.
Ensure that you meet the operating system and hardware requirements for DB2 Connect Version 10.1 described at Installation requirements for DB2 database products, and the prerequisites for connectivity to supported System z and IBM i data servers described at IBM i and mainframe support for DB2 Connect.
Review the changes in Version 10.1 to existing functionality from previous releases that can impact your DB2 Connect upgrade:
- Upgrade essentials for DB2 Connect servers
- Upgrade essentials for DB2 servers
- Upgrade essentials for data clients
- Upgrade essentials for database applications
- DB2 Version 10.1 enhancements and changes that affect DB2 Connect
If you are upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 9.5, changes to existing functionality between Version 9.7 and Version 9.5 releases can also affect your DB2 Connect environment upgrade. Review the following changes to determine whether you need to manage the effect of these changes:
- Version 9.7: Upgrade essentials for DB2 Connect servers
- Version 9.7: DB2 Connect enhancements summary
If you are upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 9.7, discontinue the use of functionality that is unsupported in DB2 Version 10.1.
- If you are upgrading from DB2 Version 9.5, discontinue the use of functionality that is unsupported in Version 9.7.
- Version 9.7: DB2 Connect enhancements summary
The Control Center tools and related wizards are discontinued. IBM® Data Studio and IBM InfoSphere® Optim™ tools are the recommended tools for performing tasks that are similar to the tasks that you previously performed using the Control Center tools. These recommended tools also provide enhanced features for tasks previously performed using the Control Center tools. For a mapping between these recommended tools and Control Center tools, see Table of recommended tools versus Control Center tools. For more details about the discontinuation, see Control Center tools have been discontinued.
Planning
Planning your DB2 environment upgrade requires you to determine a strategy on how to approach your DB2 environment upgrade and create an upgrade plan that includes all of the upgrade process details.
