Question & Answer
Question
How can you install IBM Rational ClearCase interactively on Linux and UNIX systems that do not have a graphical interface and minimize delays caused by network latency when interactively installing ClearCase from a remote system? Note: Console mode is not supported on ClearCase v8.0.
Cause
You want to install ClearCase interactively on a Linux or UNIX system that does not have a graphical interface such as XWindows. When you install ClearCase interactively from a remote system, you experience network latency when using the IBM Installation Manager wizard.
Answer
Install ClearCase using the Installation Manager console mode utility (imcl), which provides a text-based interface for installing ClearCase on supported Linux and UNIX systems. Use this feature to install software from a remote system and for server side deployments.
You can use the Installation Manager console mode functionality to interactively perform the following tasks for ClearCase product packages and updates. These are the same tasks that you can perform from the Installation Manager wizard.
- Install
- Upgrade
- Modify
- Roll back
- Uninstall
To learn more about the console utility, see Table 1.
