Transformer derivation editor throwing "Unexpected error; quitting"

Troubleshooting


Problem

When editing a derivation in the Transformer stage in DataStage Designer a pop-up box showing "Unexpected error; quitting" is displayed

Symptom

When using the derivation editor in the Transformer stage, right clicking and choosing one of the options such as "Input Column..." an error pop-us box is shown displaying "Unexpected error; quitting"

Cause

The upgrade to 8.5 FP2 on the DataStage Client did not re-register vmdsflt.exe which was upgraded during the install.

Environment

DataStage Client.

Diagnosing The Problem

Open the Transformer stage, double click on one of the output derivations, then right click and select any of the options.,

Resolving The Problem

Apply patch APAR JR41712

or

vmdsflt.exe on the client must be registered, to do this start a command prompt and change directory to <INSTALL_DIR>\Clients\Classic and issue the command:

vmdsflt.exe /REGSERVER

Note: If using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you need will to run the command "cmd.exe" with elevated Administrator permissions, to do this when invoking "cmd.exe" via Run on the Start menu, do not hit Enter but Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
